Play Selection and Review Process:
Committee members will create a short list of plays that showcase and challenge the students based on the following criteria:
A large number of suitable roles for students
Alignment with the educational goals of the college
Inclusion of diverse voices and perspectives
Shortlisted plays will be provided to all director-applicants selected for an interview.
Director-Applicant Shortlist: The committee will shortlist director-applicants for interview based on the following criteria:

If director-applicants would like to bring another play into consideration for the committee, a full script must be sent to the Program Manager (programmanager@randolphcollege.ca ) no less than one week in advance of the interviews. Please note that plays submitted to the committee in this manner may appear on shortlists in future selection cycles and are not subject to any right of first refusal agreements.
Step 3: Interviews and Final Selection
Interviews:
Selected directors will be invited for an interview.
Director-applicants may speak to their approach to and interest in one or more of the shortlisted plays in their interview with the committee.
Director-applicants are not required to speak to their approach for all shortlisted plays, only those they would have an interest in directing.
The interview will include a Q&A session with the committee, allowing for an interactive discussion on how the director plans to engage and educate students during the process.
Feedback Session:
After the interviews, the committee will meet to discuss impressions and insights gained.
Final Selection:
The committee will vote on the proposals based on the interview performance, overall alignment with student needs, and the educational value of the combination of play and director.
The committee will select one play and a respective director per cohort for hiring.
Step 4: Notification and Contracting
Notification:
The chosen director will be notified of their selection via email.
All applicants will receive feedback on their submissions and interviews.
Contracting:
A formal contract will be prepared outlining the terms of engagement, including rehearsal schedules, production timelines, and compensation. CAEA members will be engaged under a DOT agreement.
Step 5: Production Planning
Kick-off Meeting:
A meeting will be scheduled with the director, faculty, and relevant staff to outline the production process, expectations, and roles.
