ALUMNI HIGHLIGHTS: November 2018

Shaw Festival announced its 2019 Season casting and Krystal Kiran ('05) and Jacqueline Thair ('07) will be returning to Niagara-on-the-Lake's Festival Theatre in productions of The Horse and His Boy and Brigadoon--congratulations! Shaw Festival runs April 6 to December 22.

Stephanie Hope Lawlor ('10) is described as "a revelation" (Hamilton Spectator) in Rooks Theatre's production of Stephen Massicotte's Mary's Wedding, which also featured music by Shane O'Regan ('11). Read an interview with Stephanie here and the full Hamilton Spectator  review here.

Morgan Kohan ('13) will join the cast of the long-running Hallmark channel series When Calls the Heart in the upcoming holiday special When Calls the Heart: The Greatest Christmas Blessing ahead of the show's season six debut in 2019. Morgan will also be starring in the upcoming When Calls the Heart spin-off series, When Hope Calls, which is currently in development and scheduled to premiere in 2019, as part of the network's streaming video subscription service, Hallmark Movies Now. When Calls the Heart: The Greatest Christmas Blessing airs Dec. 25 at 8 p.m. on the Hallmark Channel.

Evan Taylor Benyacar ('14) is interviewed by the Calgary Herald about playing Frankie Valli in Stage West's Jersey Boys. Reviews for his performance included "Evan Taylor Benyacar (in his Stage West debut) handles the Frankie Valli vocals effortlessly. This is crucial for the audience to buy into the illusion, and I'd say the enthusiastic response when I attended supported that buy-in." (thatdanguy.blogspot.com) and "Evan Taylor Benyacar looks like a young Frankie Valli. And he sings like him too. His smaller frame and young face made him perfect for the naïve singer just beginning his career, rising to fame at a young age." (BroadwayWorld)

Independent critic Lynn Slotkin described Jahlen Barnes ('15) as "innocent, possessive" as Tobias in Talk is Free Theatre's production of Sweeney Todd, the culminating production in the Barrie-based theatre group's innovative immersive theatre experience The Curious Voyage which started in Barrie, ON and ended in London, England.
